BJARNI DANÌEL
Collaboration and collectivity have shaped the musical life of songwriter and music performer Bjarni Daníel, who grew up deep in the grassroots of Reykjavík, Iceland’s vibrant music scene. As member of bands such as Supersport!, Skoffín and bagdad brothers, his voice has become synonymous with the ideals of the local DIT (do-it-together) movement, spearheaded by music and arts collective Post-dreifing.
The framework of Bjarni Daníel’s compositions underscores a preference for rawness and vulnerability, mutually within the realms of harmony and text, as is evident on “the bull’s eye” - a recent, bandcamp-exclusive release which compiles multitudes of musical ideas in their plainest shapes, mostly recorded on his phone during the tender moments of conception.
Currently, he is working on his debut solo LP, which is set to be recorded this October, produced by Bjarni’s long time friend and collaborator Árni Hjörvar Árnason of UK indie icons The Vaccines. On this album, he elaborates on the work ethics that have defined his earlier solo works, placing simplicity and a closeness to the creative core at the forefront of the piece, while allowing Árni’s input and that of the studio band, which is comprised of some of the Reykjavík scene’s most prominent voices, to shape the material in new and unexpected ways. In this way, collaboration remains at the heart of his practice.

SPACESTATION
Spacestation hovers around the edges of Reykjavik´s rock venues and bars, beaming up every jagged guitar riff, jogging bass line, and angular feedback noise they can lay their hands on.
Like Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth and My Bloody Valentine before them, Spacestation aspire to redefine what noise can be within the context of pop music.
Their music combines inventive use of alternate tunings, guitar strumming and feedback, with the intensity of shoegaze, catchy Krautrock rhythms and the attitude of 60s psychedelia, to create a new, jogging, sonic landscape that makes you waste away insightful nights dancing with strangers.
