DJ Talk: Tango by Maestro - In the Mood for Pugliese
with Michael Lavocah + Dag Stenvoll.
The big instrumentals of Pugliese's mature period (Gallo Ciego, Emancipación, Nochero Soy and others) are rightly famous, creating a dramatic highlight to a milonga, but with four great vocalists and a recording career spanning five decades, this radiant drama is only one of many moods that Pugliese's music offers us. There are moments of even greater intensity and density, as well as moments of pure and sweet romance; there is melting tenderness, violent beauty, and even greater complexity, modernity and sophistication.
Michael Lavocah, in conversation with Dag Stenvoll, his partner in the 'Tango By Year' show (a lifeboat for the worldwide tango community during the pandemic), will open up our musical horizons. With plenty of musical examples, this seminar is not just for DJs, but for anyone who wants to better know, love, and dance to Pugliese's music.
